Shark Reef Marine Reserve

There are 125 species of sharks, plus more than 5,000 species mollusks. Heart Reef, a unique formation of corals and fish, is one of the best places to visit. This stunning structure is 17m in diameter and can be seen from above.

Half Moon Caye Wall

You will find many marine species at this amazing dive site. The wall is also home of sharks. This was revealed recently. Keep an eye out for brain coral and sea fans while you are on the wall. You may even spot a turtle or two. You might be feeling more adventurous and want to explore underwater tunnels between coral outcrops.


Yongala

You have many options when it comes to diving on the SS Yongala. Townsville is only 3 hours by fast boat from Townsville. Liveaboards depart every day. Advanced certified divers will enjoy the dives at 30m depth. A day trip to the SS Yongala is an option if you are able to afford it. The trip takes around three hours and includes two tank.

Punta Vicente Roca

Punta Vicente Rocca is a unique spot for scuba diving. It is only 200 km from the nearest island. There are several types of sea creatures that can be seen on a dive here, including the Galapagos marine iguana, red-lipped batfish, and schooling black-striped salema. Photographers may also be able to capture the rare Galapagos flightless Cormorants.

The most notable dive sites are located on the island's leeward shore, such as the 1000 Steps, which is named after the long narrow staircase that leads to its entrance.
