Learning activities at the pool

Rangers learn not only how to dive but also navigation and basic underwater search techniques. They also learn how to use a compass, grid, and square search to find treasures underwater. Rangers will practice these skills in the pool. Once they've mastered each skill, they'll begin learning to swim a mile in the water with their mask, fins, and snorkel. Rangers learn how first aid works and how to identify signs of stress and trouble while diving.

To learn, you must perform a front or back flip under water. Another activity requires candidates take a mask and their teeth to the pool floor, and perform five underwater bobs. To fail to complete a full bob, you will need to drop the mask or break the restraints.
