The south section of the Molasses Reef is a popular diving site. You will see large grouper sharks, eels and tarpon here. This dive site is protected by the Sanctuary Preservation Area. Fishing is strictly prohibited. Molasses Reef's name derives from the fact the SS Slobodna (a ship that was trying to transport back cotton to Europe) ran aground here.
Southpoint Divers
Southpoint Divers in Key West is an award-winning dive center. It is the oldest dive center in Key West and has been in business since 1991. They offer classes, dive charters, and more. The dive boat, M/V Phoenix, is equipped with a camera table, fresh water showers, storage space, and two dive ladders. It can accommodate up to 40 divers. However, Southpoint Divers never sets out with more than 27 divers.
