Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena (also known as The Big Pond) is an ice skating rink. It is owned by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It hosts many events, including ice hockey.

Skating opportunities
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers an open-air ice arena. There are several steps to follow if you want to host a group event at this rink. First, you need to make a reservation. This can be done at the Illini Union RSO Office (Room 284). Remember to include a list with names and contact information when you reserve ice-time. A supervisor must be present at the rink during your rental period to answer any questions.
Center Ice Cafe
The University of Illinois Ice Arena Center Ice Cafe can be accessed by the public. The cafe is located adjacent to the Customer Service Office and offers food as well as beverages. A wide range of accessories for skating and hockey are available at the Ice Arena Pro Shop.
Free skate trainers
Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena is a rink. It is owned by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The ice arena can be accessed by the public throughout the year at no cost. The public is welcome to use the rink for their figure skating and skateboarding skills.
Spring Show

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena
An Illini-Alert has been issued by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign following a gas leak at their ice arena. The building, which is located at 406 E. Armory Ave. had to be evacuated in precaution after Ameren Illinois crews noticed a gas leak. Firefighters blocked a sideway to the arena to prevent further contamination. The leak is believed to have originated from beneath the building.
