The Tec 40 Diver course teaches you how to deal with emergencies while diving. The course comprises three training dives as well as a confined diving experience. There are also knowledge development sessions and practical application. This certification can be earned after completing a minimum of 30 dives, including 10 enriched air nitrox dives. After completing this course, you will be eligible for Padi Tec 40 courses at universities and colleges around the world.
Tec 40 course
The PADI Tec 40 course expands on the skills of a recreational diver to include more advanced techniques. In this course, students will be introduced to two decompression gases - air and trimix 65 - and learn more advanced tec deep diver skills. Students in Tec 40 will also learn to master buoyancy control and back gas. In addition, they will learn advanced nitrox theory.
The Tec40 course emphasizes team diving techniques, self-reliance and communication in water. Students learn about decompression theory to help plan dives better. Additionally, the course covers equipment configuration and best practices.

The PADI Tec40 Course takes about three days. Students must have at least 30 dives logged, 10 of which in enriched water, to complete the course. Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to switch gas and use enriched air to dive to 40 meters.
You must take the Tec40 course
PADI Tec 40 is a great place start if you're interested in technical diving. It bridges the gap between recreational diving and full technical deep decompression diving. It teaches you the essential skills required for tec diver training. It will allow you to dive to 40 metres without stopping. You can also use enriched or 50% EANX for your decompression dives. A full technical rig will also be available.
The Tec40 course teaches students advanced decompression theory, while also emphasizing team-diving approaches and a self-reliant approach in the water. Tec40 introduces students to advanced nitrox theory including partial-pressures as well as oxygen exposure over multiple dives.
College credit for Tec40 course
PADI Tec40 requires a minimum of 30 logged diving dives. This includes 10 enriched oxygen nitrox dives. The course teaches divers how to plan and use oxygen and enriched air to decompress. It also teaches divers how to plan for and make extended stops. It is the next level in a diver’s training, and opens the door for deeper expeditions. College credit is available for those who complete the course.

Advanced divers interested in technical diving will benefit from the Tec 40 course. The course includes planning, using two deco gases (nitrox and 100% oxygen in stages), and navigating the multi-gas computer. Divers must have completed their PADI Advanced Open Water Diver training and have had at least 30 dives.
