Pros and cons of Backplate and Wing

dive computer

The backplate and wing are two separable components of a scuba harness. The buoyancy compensator attaches both pieces to the buoyancy compensator. This creates positive buoyancy at the surface and neutral buoyancy under water. Backplate, wing, and the rest of the system are modular. Each piece can be removed from the others. These systems are an excellent choice for divers who aren’t sure what type to buy. Listed below are pros and cons of each.

Stainless steel

The stainless steel wings and backplate can be ordered with or without a harness. 316 stainless-steel is used for the backplate and wings and is highly resistant to saltwater. It is cut on a CNC cutter and polished manually to prevent sharp edges which can prematurely wear the strap. They can also be used in conjunction with single-air-tank or dual air-tank systems. You can remove the stainless steel wings and backplate for easy storage.

Aluminium backplates weigh more than stainless steel. Stainless steel backplates work well in colder climates and will reduce your weight while diving. Stainless steel backplates fit all types of dive tanks better than lead pieces. A Halcyon Dealer may be able to give weighting advice so you can determine the best weight for your body. You don't have as many to replace the backplate.

Plastic

The buoyancy of the plastic backplate and wing is not good, but it is still beneficial when replacing the weight on your weightbelt. Jacket BCDs can also include weight integration and pockets. These features are not present in the backplate or wings system. These components can also be bought separately. These components can be purchased separately. This article will explain the pros and disadvantages of each. It is crucial to choose the right kind of back plate that suits your needs.

Softpack harness

There are different types of harnesses for back plate and wings. The most common of these are backplates and wing BCDs. They come with all the components needed, including a harness and backplate. Softpack BCDs, which are lightweight and flexible, are great for technical divers.

The downside of steel backplate harnesses is their lack of adaptability. This harness is not suitable for single tanks. It is only compatible with double tanks with permanent bands. Although the steel harness is the strongest option, it is cumbersome to use while traveling. In addition, it is only suitable for double tanks, and the steel backplate may be unsuitable for use on land. Attaching adapters can make it work with single tanks, but this is not recommended.
